Wallace Monument - Stirling

My favourite movie of all time is Braveheart. Now i know that the story is full of crap! haha.. The themes and characters are real.. but the story certainly is not.. I know better because i've been to the Wallace Monument! This is the real William Wallace =)

The Wallace Monument is located in the small city of Stirling. It is sited here because this is the place where Wallace defeated the English in the famous Battle of Stirling Bridge. Wallace used his knowledge of the terrain and cunning to trap the invading English troops. The calvary was useless as they were bogged down by the mud, and the Stirling bridge prevented the full English force from participating in battle. Wallace's men, though outnumbered, routed the English that fateful day..

As for us.. we travelled to Stirling.. and with the help of 2 really sweet old ladies, managed to locate the Wallace Monument.. The trek up the hill was tiring.. considering we were carrying our backpacks.. but we were certainly rewarded when we got to the top.. when we got a view of the Scottish countryside.. This is the real Scotland i came to see!

Top of the hill, bottom of the monument! See the statue?

The tower is accessed by a narrow spiral stone staircase.. The ground floor is the reception, and the first floor we come to is the level that tells us about Wallace..

The 2nd Floor remembers famous Scots and their contributions.. look closely at the list below.. i was amazed that so many important inventions came from Scotland! This is only part of the list!

The 3rd floor.. tells us more about the tower itself and how it came about..

Walking to the top.. looking through a slit =)

Here is the view from the top.. It was foggy and super windy! But still very pretty =)

The trek down was great.. was grinning away coz the place was simply too pretty.. Praise God!

And from there.. we're off to the train station.. To Edinburgh!
